This is Fiat's new 500 TwinAir with its 900cc two-cylinder engine. But you'd struggle to notice the difference between this an any other 500, apart from the new striking blue that was launched with the car.

Fiat have designed a brand new engine for the TwinAir to ensure maximum fuel efficiency with their MultiAir system. The amount of air that enters the engine is controlled by hydraulically-operated inlet valves, rather than a camshaft, and this means combustion is specifically timed and managed to reduce fuel consumption.
All this work that goes on under the bonnet means the new Fiat is quite capable of achieving 70mpg and because CO2 emissions are just 95g/km, it's also exempt from road tax.

The interior is fairly similar to the standard 500 with retro styled vintage ivory dials and instrument panel. The new Blue&Me technology means the driver can connect their MP3 player and either use the steering wheel controls or their voice to control and select the tracks or playlists they want. Music can be played through the standard speakers in the car or the Interscope Sound System, a sophisticated hi-fi system providing better sound quality, can be added.

Auto Express have compared two convertible Fiat 500s, the new TwinAir against the sporty offering, the Abarth. However, the great economic headlines that Fiat boast are challenged in a real life miles-per-gallon test.
